Dan Wright for Mayor

LEADING CHANGE for over a decade!

Don’t look at what they say. Look at what they’ve done.

Every candidate will tell you what they are going to do. Few can back those words up with experience.

I rescued a $600 million school district from legal and fiscal catastrophe. When I became interim superintendent of Stockton Unified School District, I took over a district plagued by administrative infighting, organizational inefficiencies, and distrust with our unions. By the time I finished my term as Stockton Unified's superintendent, I had stopped the infighting, boosted test scores, streamlined  the student registration process, and collaborated with the Stockton Teachers Association to move towards a smoother and fairer bargaining process.

Along with spending 25 years as an administrator in Stockton Unified School District, I have served you for 8 years on the Stockton City Council, and in many leadership roles on the League of California Cities, California Council of Governments, San Joaquin Valley Regional Policy Council, San Joaquin Area Flood Control Agency, Eastern San Joaquin Groundwater Authority, San Joaquin Water Advisory Group, and Ava Community Energy Board of Directors.

In all of these positions, I worked with people from every community and every party to get things done!

  • Brought Ava Community Energy to Stockton, giving us the power to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and bring down energy costs.
  • Authored the City of Stockton’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Resolution, approved in 2022.
  • Successfully secured $100 million from the federal government for much-needed improvements at the city’s wastewater plant. According to the EPA, this will save Stockton ratepayers $67 million over the next 30 years.
  • Deployed $6.5 million in County funds to the St. Mary’s Community Services Pathways Project, moving 326 Stocktonians out of homelessness and into supportive housing.
  • Negotiated deal with US Army Corp of Engineers to construct the Holman Road Bridge over Bear Creek, improving emergency response times in the farthest corners of northeast Stockton.
  • Fought for fair deals with Amazon and other major employers, so we could expand our community services.
  • As Chair of the San Joaquin Area Flood Control Agency (SJAFCA), established significant funding for projects to protect Stockton and Mossdale Tract from flooding.
  • Led the movement to cut the public subsidy for the Swenson Golf Course, reinvesting millions into the rest of our community. Proudly cast the deciding vote in City Council.
  • Initiated efforts to make Sandman Park on Don Avenue more accessible for families with physical disabilities.
  • Gave you a direct voice in our government via monthly office hours. Hosted four town halls to address community violence at Kennedy Elementary School, Peyton Elementary School, Polo Run Apartments, and Arnold Rue Community Center.
